Photos: Wander into the woods and see the restored fairy trail

Call it “Extreme Home Makeover: Fairy Trail Edition.”

Last month, vandals struck the fanciful fairy homes crafted over time by Grafton families on a walking trail adjacent to the Pine Grove Cemetery. Objects were smashed, structures pushed over, and children’s hearts were broken.

The Buy Nothing Grafton Facebook group organized a rebuilding session Saturday, with structures ranging from the tiny to the elaborate. Many families created their own fairy houses at home, situating them among tree roots just to the side of the trail. Others worked branches into shelters or brought colored rocks and toys to leave for the fairies.

While natural materials were encouraged, several people incorporated plastic (like the stylish My Little Ponies perched with a view of the water), but planned to retrieve them before winter.

Another building session will be scheduled at a later date.
