Letter: 20 years ago, one of Grafton’s own answered the call at the Twin Towers

As we reflect on 911 after 20 years, we can’t help but remember the lives lost and the heartache caused by the results of that day. There are many heroes and 20 years seems like a long time, but it has gone by fast.

One of our own who responded to the 9/11 attack was Greg Lynch. Greg spent 16 years on the Grafton Fire Department prior to getting appointed to the FDNY. On 911 Greg was a rookie private who responded to the scene.

When the South Tower came down, he dove under a fire truck for protection. Immediately after the tower collapsed, he ran back into the devastation and resumed his job as an FDNY firefighter. In the months after he spent all of his time on scene digging through the debris with his fellow firefighters to recover every last soul.

Greg is now a Captain in the FDNY, doing the job that he loves, and we are all proud to know him and his heroic efforts of that day. We salute all first responders all over the country for their dedication to serving and protecting us and on the anniversary of 911 pray for the souls lost and the people that are still doing the job.
