Sammy, Ellie, and Bolt are the three finalists for Grafton Dog Mayor!
It was a landslide victory for Sammy, who brought in 20,898 votes, followed by Ellie with 11,081, snd Bolt, with 11,025. Overall, the winners accounted for 43,004 votes out of the 66,562 cast over the three-day voting period.
Sammy, an 80 lb. Lab mix, is owned by Maureen and Daniel Swier. “I promise more belly rubs, squeaky balls, treats and nap time. my owners promise to clean up these streets with their numerous poop bags,” he pledges. “It’s time we upgrade our dog park infrastructure. I will keep Grafton a safe place and take a bite out of crime.”
Ellie, a rescue dog from Baypath, is owned by Select Board Chair Colleen Roy. “Ellie loves to snuggle and bask in the sun,” Roy wrote. “She is not an overly active dog, leaving her plenty of time to be Mayor.”
Bolt, a rescue from Kentucky, is owned by Amanda Wiley, who notes “He knows when to snuggle and when to be the right amount of ham.” He’s also highly stylish and usually sports a bow tie.
The contest is part of the Grafton 4th of July celebration. The winner will be chosen by a panel of judges and announced on July 4 prior to the parade.
The parade steps off at 10 a.m. from North Street Elementary School, proceeding down North Street to Grafton Common.
