July 3 concert starts off Grafton’s 4th of July festivities

It’s Independence Day weekend in 2022 and for the first time since 2019, Grafton is officially celebrating!

Starting off the festivities on Sunday is the 40th annual Grafton Lions Concert on the Common, featuring a patriotic performance by the 215th Massachusetts Army Band at 7:30 p.m.

Only the roof (repaired by the Grafton Lions Club a few years ago) remains on the Grafton Common bandstand.

Don’t worry about the gazebo/bandstand, now a barricaded construction site with a close to levitating roof, part of ongoing improvements being made to Grafton Common. There’s still plenty of room for the band’s performance stage and everyone’s blankets and chairs for the concert itself.

Speaking of chairs, remember there’s a tradition of bringing your chairs to the Common hours ahead of the concert to save your spot.

Monday is the 4th of July Parade, which organizers are hoping will become a tradition. Festivities begin with the announcement of the first Grafton Dog Mayor, 9:15 a.m. in front of Quite Fetching Dog Barkery at One Grafton Common.

The parade itself steps off at 10 a.m. from North Street Elementary School, proceeding down North Street to Grafton Common.
Following the parade, there will be demonstrations and military items for sale on the Common.
