South Street, Grafton’s Halloween heaven, will be open to trick-or-treaters

Prepare for scares on Halloween night — Grafton Police will once again limit traffic on South Street to protect trick-or-treaters as they roam South Street.

The street, with its old Victorian homes, is traditionally the epicenter of Grafton’s Halloween. Homeowners prepare to draw in hundreds of trick-or-treaters with elaborate decorations and haunts.

Police Chief Normand Crepeau said trick-or-treat times are normally recommended between 5 to 8 p.m. but suggests that this year he is recommending completing activities before dusk. That’s right, COVID-19 isn’t the only virus in town: EEE and West Nile Virus, borne by blood-sucking mosquitoes, continue to be a threat until the first frost of the season. Bug spray is recommended.

Police officers will be posted at the Grafton Common/South Street entrance as well as the intersection of Bruce/South Street. Should the need arise, officers will limit motor vehicle access to South Street for residents only.

“As always, motorists driving through the area are advised to use caution, be alert for pedestrians and ensure that their vehicles are parked legally and do not hamper the flow of traffic,” Crepeau said.
