Say goodbye to Grafton’s PAYT bags… well, sort of

Ask a Grafton resident about the town trash bags and the complaints will roll in.

They rip too easily, especially around the drawstrings.

Finding them in stores can be a hassle.

Why can’t the town just have stickers for the bags of the user’s choice, or just pay for all of trash pickup like it used to do?

Town Administrator Tim McInerney told the Select Board this week that the town will be seeing a new version of the familiar green bags starting on July 1. The biggest change? These bags S-T-R-E-T-C-H.

“They’ll give more volume but not more weight,” McInerney said of the reviews he’s received from Municipal Center employees who tested out the bags.

The new bags will not require an increase in cost, since Assistant Town Administrator Rebecca Meekins successfully negotiated with the vendor.

In other bag news, the town is developing a website that will allow residents to order green PAYT trash bags online and have them delivered directly to homes.
