Football field Shakespeare is canceled as Grafton Theatre returns… inside

If your plans for the weekend included a bit of Shakespeare on the football field, it’s time to make new plans.

Grafton High School is bringing the drama back inside and changing the dates for its production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Reserve Friday, May 21 and Saturday, May 22 at 7 p.m. and plan for comfortable seating inside the school auditorium.

The show is limited to 200 people under state COVID-19 guidelines. While the CDC has lifted the mask mandate for those who are fully vaccinated, no declaration has been made by Grafton schools involving masking on school grounds.

A condensed version of Shakespeare’s classic play, adapted by Claudia Haas, the play opens with the Dreamer, a modern student, in her attempts to understand Shakespeare’s story. When Puck, a mischievous fairy appears, The Dreamer is whisked away into a magical world of fantasy, love, and drama.

The cast includes: Annika Alves, Nate Briggs, Sylvia Cahill, Sophia Coldwell, Sarah Elshaarawy, Gabby Felder, JJ Fields, Anna Fiore, Helena Firlings, Belle Geoffroy, Noah Griffin, Meroska Gouhar, Abby Hise, Sigrid Hiser, Chase Landry, Natalie Leonard, Amanda Murdock, Maggie Mussler, Alma Mwangi, Mia O’Donnell, Ryan Tierney, and Zayda Waters.

The student crew includes Madie Geoffroy, Juliana Kallio, Ainsley Marr, Kelly Merkle, Kiera Mills, Zoe Mumford, Olivia Zinkowsky.

The show is produced and directed by Theatre Arts Director, Lisa Scarlett, with assistance from Matt Mariner, Michele Landry, Ron Burke, and John Aurin. Tickets are not being sold but donations are accepted.
