Boston Bruins trade Boston Garden for the Grafton Library in July

The Boston Bruins will be skating into the Grafton Public Library on July 30 as part of a statewide tour to encourage young people to read.

The “When You Read, You Score!” initiative will visit 10 libraries, popping into Grafton on Saturday, July 30 at 1 p.m.

This is the 13th year the Bruins have partnered with the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners and the Massachusetts Library System to support literacy programs and encourage reading among youth across the state.

Throughout the summer, Bruins Mascot Blades will visit libraries in an effort to promote the initiative and interact with young readers, who will also have the chance to win official Bruins prizes by competing in hockey trivia and taking photos with Blades.

Libraries across the Commonwealth are also challenging themselves and their residents once again as part of the third annual “First Lady of the Commonwealth and Blades Summer Reading Challenge.” The challenge began in 2020 as an option for libraries that made summer reading fully remote during the pandemic and runs this summer from July 1 to August 16.

To help inspire children and teens to keep reading over the summer, Bruins players including Patrice BergeronBrandon Carloand Brad Marchandhave helped libraries develop a summer reading list that also includes librarian picks for the best hockey books.
