Alas, Grafton Library’s promise to loan out cats is just a feline April Fool

The newest additions to the Grafton Public Library are cuddly, prone to purring and, in the case of Princess Fluffypaws, requires a special insurance waiver because of her penchant for violence.

Alas, the “Cat-alog” which appeared on the library’s website, along with the mysterious restricted section of the library that apparently has housed a half dozen cats, was an April Fool’s prank.

Library Director Beth Gallaway was surprised by the sudden appearance of a “Library of Cats” page, which featured images of Photoshopped felines adorably posing in various areas of the library.

Cats offered included kittens Dinah & Pixel (“often need to be rescued from danger; a little creepy”); Goose (“fierce and protective; probably an alien”); Buttercup (“prefers dystopian settings”; Maurice (“grumpy old man”); and the infamous Princess Fluffypaws (“Likes: Sharpening claws, promoting a false sense of security in others”).

“Not a feline fan? Talks are in development between the Grafton, Massachusetts library, and Grafton libraries in other areas of the world to exchange animal items. Grafton, England circulates a red squirrel named Scrat. Grafton Library in Chile is eager to exchange a capybara named Fred.”

As with all library loans, there are expectations.

“Cats must be returned to the library in good condition. A reasonable amount of wear and tear will be accepted. An unreasonable amount of wear and tear of your furniture should be expected. Library cats are fed a specific diet. If you do not have access to unlimited bluefin tuna, please do not reserve a library cat. Library cats prefer to sleep on computer keyboards and will interrupt your Zoom calls. Please do not dog-ear the cats!”
