What’s black and white and on the moove? Introducing The Mooving Cow
Don’t expect to see the Mooving Cow’s black and white trailer tooling around neighborhoods, calling customers through tinkling music.
The Mooving Cow is not that kind of ice cream truck.
For now, it’s parked across the river from its sibling, the Grafton Grill & Crust serving up Giffords Ice Cream in cones, cups and even cannoli. There are mix-ins, ice cream pies and, carrying over from the restaurant menu, designations to mark items that are gluten or dairy-free.
“We started selling ice cream in the restaurant during Covid, selling pints,” said Stephen Belfiore, who runs both businesses with his wife, Lori. “I’m always trying to think of things to stay current because things go in phases.”
That’s what happened with pizza — the “& Crust” that was added to the restaurant fairly recently. It started in a shed behind the restaurant and expanded inside with a pizza oven and its own separate entrance for takeout.
“I just started thinking mobile ice cream and started looking for trailers,” Belfiore said.
He also acquired a freezer from the Grafton Country Store, which had its own sideline, Cones on the Common, before deciding to get out of the ice cream business. Belfiore has thoughts of perhaps starting an old fashioned ice cream parlor but, for now, there’s The Mooving Cow.
Right now, its in its shady location beside Stephen H. Roney Memorial Park. It’s open Monday-Thursday, 3 p.m.-8 p.m.; Friday, 3 p.m.-9 p.m.; Saturday, noon-9 p.m.; and Sunday, noon-8 p.m.
Of course, sometimes it will be on the moove. First up is a June 19 Apple Tree Arts event at the Willard Clock Museum. They’re already getting calls about parties, other events.
Just look for the white trailer with spots like a Holstein. Don’t forget to mooooo.
