TikTok challenge causes vandalism at Grafton Middle School, high school

Principals at both Grafton High School and Grafton Middle School are warning parents about a viral TikTok challenge called “Devious Licks”  that is urging students to vandalize their schools in exchange for points.

“This trend urges students to steal and vandalize primarily within our restrooms,” Grafton Middle School Principal Roseanne Kurposka wrote to parents. “In some cases the vandalism and theft is based on a point system. Students earn points for what they do. We are experiencing the vandalization of our soap dispensers and toilet paper dispensers, as well as the theft of the soap and toilet paper. In addition, toilet paper is being thrown into the toilets.”

Nationally, schools are reporting thousands of dollars in damages from students videoing themselves vandalizing school property. Several have been arrested, with evidence of their crimes provided by their own videos.

Last week, TikTok announced it was banning Devious Licks videos from the platform, saying they violate the app’s community guidelines.

“We are investigating this situation, and we will be speaking with the students who are reportedly involved,” Kurposka wrote. “As a school community who works together, we ask that you please speak to your children about this trend, and please let us know if you discover any information that may help us connect with the individuals involved in order to resolve it.”
