Silver Lake Beach ends season early after algae discovery

Silver Lake Beach is closed for the season, effective immediately, after blue-green algae was detected in the water.

Recreation Director Jen Andersen said the beach was closed at 2 p.m. after the algae was detected. While not all blue-green algae is harmful, water test results would not be turned around before this weekend’s already scheduled closing.

“After venturing into this season with some unknowns, we’d like to thank our staff for making this year’s operation happen and making it successful and thank our patrons for following staff direction and health protocols and having patience and understanding with our phased approach to reopening,” Andersen said, “May you enjoy the rest of your summer, and all stay safe and healthy.”
