Reporter’s Notebook: Peace vigil, library returns, and just who is the Grafton TA?

Here’s a question for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts: who is the town administrator in Grafton?

Unfortunately, Gov. Charlie Baker’s office hasn’t gotten the memo, addressing a letter regarding Chapter 90 funding, to former Town Administrator Tim McInerney, who left the office back in July 2020.

Granted, the governor was a little busy dealing with all the problems brought on by COVID-19 at the time, but one might think someone noticed the change in leadership, Is there a form Grafton needed to send? Did Town Administrator Evan Brassard have to send some kind of greeting? Is Brassard still getting mail back at his old job in Monson?

Hey, state Rep. David Muradian, can you spread the word up on Beacon Hill?

If you’re in the Grafton Common area between 5 and 6 p.m. today, be cautious of people holding candles — and perhaps, join in.

Graftonites will stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine, holding candles to send a message of peace, at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Grafton & Upton, 3 Grafton Common, on Wednesday, March 9.

Rev. Daniel Gregoire, will lead the peace vigil. Public witness, reflection, singing, and candle lighting are planned.

The greater Grafton community is invited to support the people of Ukraine.

The Grafton Public Library has resumed in-person programming for teens and adults and has dropped the mask mandate for most areas of the building, with the exception of the Children’s Room.

Library Director Beth Gallaway said the masking around young children is meant to protect young children who are not yet eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. Masks are optional, but welcomed, in the rest of the building.

“Eating and drinking is also allowed, in a bring-a-snack way, more than a have-a-pizza-delivered way,” she joked in an email.

Meeting rooms are now available for public use and gatherings of 10 people or more can book rooms in advance.

In-person library programs for ages 5 and up will resume on April 4.
