Plan letting the little monsters out on Halloween night? COVID-19 may restrict trick-or-treating

Front lights in many neighborhoods were dimmed on Halloween night last year as COVID-19 fears limited traditional trick-or-treating. In 2019, some of those same trick-or-treaters limited their travels due to EEE-carrying mosquitos.

It’s 2021 and while most adults are vaccinated, the highly contagious Delta variant of Covid may once again limit trick-or-treating on Halloween night.

Select Board Chair Peter Carlson said the town has been hearing from families questioning whether the town will again recommend Halloween restrictions, such as going without a police presence to discourage crowds on South Street, where homeowners traditionally create elaborate Halloween displays. Police Chief Normand Crapeau will be announcing updates closer to Halloween.

Grafton traditionally does not set aside a date other than October 31 for trick-or-treating, nor does it limit hours, unlike other area towns.
