Nature’s Remedy leaves Select Board on a high as HCA transfer is approved

The Select Board has mellowed its stance on the transfer of Nature’s Remedy’s HCA to future owner Jushi Holdings, but there’s a caveat: the town has the option to terminate the agreement after two years if no progress is made.

The board last month surprised representatives from both companies by postponing a decision on the transfer due to frustration over Nature’s Remedy’s failure to make any progress on plans for a marijuana cultivation and processing facility at 8 Millennium Drive. Select Board member Colleen Roy also caught them by surprise by asking about the status of Marchietti Industries, which had an HCA for the same address for retail sales.

Joshua Lee Smith, representing the joint companies, said the state Cannabis Control Commission has since approved the ownership and control change from Nature’s Remedy to Jushi, a multi-state cannabis company. It has also gained approvals of HCA transfers from Millbury and Tyngsboro, leaving only Grafton and Lakeville as loose ends.

The new HCA agreement requires a company representative to update the Select Board annually on the cultivation facility, with the stipulation that the agreement may be stubbed out if there is no progress.

Smith complimented Roy on bringing up the Marchetti agreement, which had been missed during merger negotiations.

“There’s not much that gets by Colleen,” Select Board Chair Peter Carlson quipped.
