Muradian surprises Grafton Senior Center with $6,000 check

The last Bingo had been called and Grafton’s seniors, some wearing silly hats in honor of Halloween, were getting ready for a lunch catered by Bushel n’ Peck.

That’s when state Rep. David Muradian took the microphone, apologized for the meal delay, and brought out the giant check.

“My charitable foundation has made donations for the past two years to causes in the district — Grafton, Northbridge and Upton,” Muradian said. “The first year, it was food banks. Last year, it was veterans. This year, we are helping senior centers, and I’m happy to present you with this check for $6,000.”

As Senior Center Director Barbara Connelly put her hands over her mouth and gasped, a cheer went up from the filled tables.

“This is amazing,” Connelly said. “We thank you, not just for this monetary gift, but for your presence here, which is all the time.”

Muradian started the foundation — called, appropriately enough, the David Muradian Foundation — shortly after taking office. It raises money from an annual golf tournament, with proceeds earmarked for local non-profits.
