Letter: ‘We have two exceptionally talented candidates who are the right people at the right time’

Hello and thank you for reading this.

It may not feel like it, but we in Grafton are lucky.  We are lucky because we have two exceptional candidates running for Select Board who would immediately elevate the civility, fiscal knowledge, energy and openness of that body.

Change is needed.  I appreciate the energy that any member of the Board contributes on behalf of our town, but the breakdown of civil, relevant and solution-oriented discussion over the past 6 months, especially in the face of current events, is unacceptable.  The two new candidates for Select Board this year would immediately improve this situation.

I am enthusiastically throwing my support behind Mathew Often and Colleen Roy.

Mat Often is a candidate everyone should want on the Select Board.  His work on the finance committee has been commendable.  His petition to revise the CIPC charter highlighted a significant need and he followed it up with extensive action.  He is serious about finding solutions.  He welcomes input from all sides, especially from those who disagree with him.  He is experienced, calm, mature, smart, and selfless.  His support of ideas is not premised on the politics of being re-elected but on their effectiveness.  He will put all of Grafton first in all matters, and the Board would benefit greatly from his steadying influence.

Colleen Roy is a candidate for change like no other in this race.  Colleen’s work on the Finance Committee gives her a deep understanding of the financial issues facing Grafton, and she is tenacious in her pursuit of better answers.  She is passionate and energetic and she addresses problems head-on.  Her response videos to the recent Select Board meetings, and her spot-on recommendations for how they could be improved, show a dedication and a mindset that we sorely need.  Colleen is a powerhouse of positive constructive energy and foolish ideas will quickly be shown the door if she is on the board.

So yes,  we are lucky.  We have two exceptionally talented candidates who are the right people at the right time to help meet the challenges ahead.  Please join me in voting for Mathew Often and Colleen Roy for Select Board on June 23rd

Sincerely,
Jeremy C. Graves
