Letter: Tarczuk says goodbye to Grafton Middle School

Thank you, Grafton. After fourteen wonderful years, I will be leaving my role as middle school Social Studies teacher and starting a new job as the Assistant Principal for the Freeman Kennedy School in Norfolk. This decision was very difficult. Grafton is not just a place that I work, it’s like a home to me. The students, my GPS friends, and the town have become my extended family and you all have really helped me grow as a person and as an educator.

There are so many great things happening every day at Grafton Middle School. It was an incredible honor working with an amazing staff that strived to bring out the best in our students as well as so many future leaders. I feel like the luckiest person in the world for getting this opportunity at GMS. There were so many great moments from the DC trips, Leif’s Promotion Day Charades, developing new curriculums, coaching basketball, going to Six Flags, Viking Festivals, spirit weeks, “Woah’ing” Promotion Day, Grafton History Tours, the Music Man Jr, Egg Roulette vs. Ms. Gerhardt, Service-Learning Videos, Picture Day, Miss McShera’s multiple birthdays, Luaus, coaching softball, golf outings, Civics projects, Brussel Sprout feasts, Derby Day, Pink Outs, and naturally, the Thunderbirds bus! Of course, many little moments, like lunches with my friends or working with groups of students on an in-class project, are continuously buzzing through my mind right now. Grafton will always hold a special place in my heart.

Professionally, I owe it all to you- my school, my students, and my family. So many of you helped me along the way and I cannot thank you enough. I am excited to take this next step and I hope to bring a little of Grafton Middle School’s culture with me. For all my former students, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need me. You guys are the best and kept me engaged every day. For my Grafton friends, I love you all and I am an easy guy to find if you need me. In closing, thank you Grafton for the best years of my life and always remember that Mr. Peter Singley finished last place in fantasy football two of the past three years.

Sincerely,

Mr. (Adam) Tarczuk
