Kindergarten registration for 2020-2021 school year is in March
Children who are 5 years old on or before September 1, 2020 are eligible to enter kindergarten.
Parents are reminded that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Attendance Regulations requires that all children who have attained the age of 6 must be registered and entered in a school program. Parents do have the option of not entering their children into kindergarten until they have reached the age of 6.
Parents are to register their child at the school they will be attending. When registering your child in March for kindergarten, your child must be present and the following must be provided:
· An original birth certificate along with a photocopy for their permanent file.
· Proof of residence, occupancy, and photo ID.
· Physical history and physical exam within the last 12 months.
· Evidence of blood lead level screening.
· Proof of immunization against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, measles, mumps, rubella, polio (unless exempt for medical or religious reasons).
· Proof of Hepatitis B series 1, 2, and 3 immunizations.
· Proof of Varicella vaccination having been administered or physician documentation that your child has had chicken pox.
· Proof of HIB series vaccination.
· Proof of vision and stereopsis testing.
Registration and Phase 1 of screening (hearing and speech and language screening on the child) will take place at both North Grafton Elementary School, 24 Waterville St., and South Grafton Elementary School, 90 Main St. If you are unsure of which school your child should attend, please call the Superintendent’s Office at 508-839-5421.
Registration will be held on March 9 for children whose last name begins with letters A-L — A-F between 9:15 a.m. and noon, G-L between 1 and 3 p.m. On March 10, children whose last name begins with M-Z M-R between 9:15 a.m. and noon, S-Z between 1 and 3 p.m. If schools are canceled or delayed, registration will be held on March 16.
Phase 2 of kindergarten screening appointments (developmental and hearing screening of the child) will be scheduled in May 11, 12 and 18 at North Grafton Elementary School and June 1, 2, and 3 at South Grafton Elementary School.
Parents will be given an appointment at the March registration visit.
During the two phases of kindergarten registration children must be present and will be screened for motor and language development. Parents will be notified of any possible concerns. Follow-up services and re-screenings will be provided for children after they have entered kindergarten.
If you plan to have child care services during the school year, complete the required form no later than the May/June screening phase. If you plan to enter your child in private school, call your respective principal (Ms. Flynn, North Grafton Elementary School – 508-839-5483 or Mrs. Parker, South Grafton Elementary School – 508-839-5484). Children who are entering private school are encouraged to participate in the screening process.
Please do not hesitate to contact the building principal at the school in which your child will attend kindergarten if you have any questions.
