Grafton schools seek team members for the Polar Plunge

School Resource Officer Mark Alves is looking for people who want to get “freezin’ for the right reason.”

Alves is leading a team to participate in the Polar Plunge, a fundraiser for the Special Olympics, with a goal of getting at least 20 plungers from each of the Grafton schools.

Naturally, due to COVID-19, there is a twist. This year, you won’t see crowds running into chilly lakes and ponds as a group, bonding as they turn blue.

“All you have to do is commit to getting wet somehow between now and March 27,” Alves wrote in a pitch to school staff and students. “You can dump water over your head, dunk in your tub, jump in a lake or a kiddie pool…OR you can sign up as a “towel holder” and forget the plunge altogether and just try to fundraise! You don’t have to video it, but we would love it if you did! You can put it on your social media and tag GPS and Special Olympics MA.”

All Plungers and Towel Holders who sign up and raise at least $100 will receive a long-sleeve shirt.
