Grafton’s Ricky Duran wows ‘The Voice’ judges
Grafton High School graduate Ricky Duran won a standing ovation from all four judges on “The Voice” and will be coached by singer Blake Shelton during the newest season.
“Blown away at all the feedback I’ve been receiving after last night!!” Duran posted on his Facebook page the day after his Oct. 7 audition. “Still in awe that I got to perform on national television on @NBCTheVoice. Perfect tribute to my family. If you haven’t seen it yet, check out the video!”
Duran, 29, is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music.
I grew up listening to blues and rock n’ roll,” Duran told the judges, “and I’ve been venturing into more soul and R&B.”
While Duran admitted his first rock concert was No Doubt, whose lead singer, Gwen Stefani, is a judge on the program, he ultimately chose country singer Shelton.
“Ricky, I was listening to your singing there, and I want you to know that on my place in Oklahoma I have a river,” Shelton said, hoping to persuade Duran to join his team. “And I’d love to take you to it — if you want to go. That was a performance that clearly had us all from the beginning, you know. And as these chairs turned around it just gave you more confidence, like ‘man, I’m just going to let it fly.’”
