Grafton Recreation’s winning scarecrow just about sums up 2020

Sometimes, you just have to vote for the orange ass.

The results are in from the Grafton Recreation Department’s annual scarecrow contest on Grafton Common: Harvest Moon, a scarecrow with a major case of plumber’s butt, has won the popular vote.

This being 2020, the road to victory was not without controversy.

Just a few days after socially distanced families gathered on the Common to craft their scarecrows, about a dozen of them were stolen (or walked away…), with many popping up on the lawns of puzzled residents. There was at least one casualty, “Mummy Ma’ma,” which suffered at the hands of its captors.

For their sake, let’s hope the Mummy’s curse isn’t triggered by the full moon on Halloween.
