Grafton plans India Day celebration on August 20

The flag of India will once again fly at the Municipal Center on August 20 in honor of the 76th anniversary of Indian independence.

This will be the second year Grafton will host India Day festivities in honor of the more than 300 Indian families in town. Vaishali Gade of the India Association of Greater Boston, appearing before the Select Board Tuesday, said they hope the local celebration will bring together families from around the area.

“With Covid restrictions lifted, we are definitely looking to increase the size,” she said. About 60-70 people are expected.

On August 15, 1947, India gained her independence from 200 years of British colonial rule with peaceful civil disobedience and nonviolence.

Grafton’s celebration is at 9 a.m. on August 20, in front of the Municipal Center.
