Go Gators Go! Grafton football, field hockey, and girls soccer top first round of playoffs

The first week of playoffs had the Gators gobbling up the competition, with Grafton High School girls’ soccer, field hockey, and football emerging victorious.

  • Field Hockey —  The Gators went into overtime for a 2-1 win over Nauset in the first round of the MIAA Division II Field Hockey Tournament on Thursday. The Gators (11-6), who traveled more than two hours to the Eastern portion of Cape Cod for the contest, now will travel down the road to Holliston for a Round of 16 meeting with the Panthers (13-2-3) on Monday, November 8 at 3:45 p.m.
  • Girls Soccer — The No. 8 Gators (15-1-3) shut out No. 25 Wakefield, 2-0, on Saturday night in the first round of the MIAA Division II Girls Soccer Tournament. The Gators will host No. 24 Walpole (7-10-2) on Wednesday, November 10 at 3:30 p.m.
  • Football — No. 4 Grafton pulled away from No. 13 Marlboro, 35-7, in the first round of the MIAA Tournament on Friday night. The Gators will host No. 12 Bedford in an MIAA Quarterfinal game on Friday, November 12 at 7 p.m.

Fans attending the games should purchase their tickets in advance via GoFan, which the teams will be using throughout the sports seasons.

The post-season has ended for:

  • Volleyball — The SWCL champions lost 3-0 to Longmeadow in the MIAA Division II Volleyball Tournament on Wednesday.
  • Boys soccer — The Gators finished the regular season at 7-5-5 and advanced to the MIAA Tournament. They traveled to Duxbury where the Dragons scored two early goals to end Grafton’s season, 2-0.
  • Cross Country— Luke Herren finished sixth overall at the Central Massachusetts Division I Cross Country Championships on Saturday afternoon at Gardner Golf Course. Herren completed the 5K course in 17:37, while teammate Nevan Kelley was 18th (18:15) as the Gators finished ninth overall. On the girls’ side, Jill Brenner paced Grafton in 18th place, while Grace Cummings (35), Jemma DePasquale (36), and Allie Shrayer (39) all helped the Gators to a sixth-place finish.

At halftime of the MIAA Tournament Quarterfinal football game against Bedford, the varsity teams that won Southern Worcester County League (SWCL) Championships will be honored. Those teams include Golf, Girls Soccer, Girls Cross Country, and Volleyball. The ceremony will take place at midfield around 7:45 p.m.
