Get out and VOTE in the Super Tuesday presidential primary!
Grafton is going into the Super Tuesday presidential primary with a 6 percent turnout, with 822 residents taking advantage of early voting last week.
Town Clerk Kandy Lavallee said 693 Democrat, 136 Republican, and 3 Liberarian ballots were cast over the last week.
For the rest of the town’s registered voters, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on March 3.
Four political parties will be represented in the Primary: Democratic, Green-Rainbow, Libertarian and Republican. Voters enrolled in a party can only participate in that party’s Primary, however Unenrolled voters can choose which party’s primary to participate in. Voters can check their party enrollment by visiting www.RegisterToVoteMA.com and can view sample ballots by visiting www.WhereDoIVoteMA.com.
The Primary ballot will provide voters the opportunity to select their Presidential Primary candidate preference, their State Committee Man and Woman preferences as well as their local Town Political Committees. The role of the State Committee Man and Woman, according to Mass General Law, promotes the aims of each party, works in cooperation with the national committee with ward and town committees, and organizes and works for the nomination and election of party candidates. The role of Town Committees is to represent their party at the local neighborhood level, promote the objectives of the party and also to work for the nomination and election of party candidates.
The Town Committees also can put forth suggestions for the local Board of Registrars of Voters and also submit names to the Board of Selectmen for appointment of poll workers. The Town Committee appears on the ballot with the option to vote for the whole slate by selecting the ‘group’ option, which is first on the ballot. Voters can also choose to select individuals, rather than the group, for Town Committee as well.
Mark your calendars for the Presidential Primary on March 3rd, the Annual
Town Meeting on May 11th, the Annual Town Election on May 19th, State Primary on September 1 and the Presidential Election on November 3.
