Duran rides the ‘Downtown Train’ to ‘The Voice’ Top 10

Ricky Duran didn’t have to wait too long Tuesday to discover if he was moving on in “The Voice.”

The Grafton native was the first named to the Top 10, riding on the fan response to his rendition of Rod Stewart’s “Downtown Train,” which closed out Monday’s show.

“You know, Ricky, when I tell you that everybody loves you, it’s not just fans and people that I know,” Duran’s coach, Blake Shelton, said afterward. “Literally, people in the business are reaching out to me about you already. I love that about you. Because of life reasons it’s taken you a minute to finally get a chance.”

Fellow judge John Legend was also lavish with praise, despite the fact that Duran was on a rival team.

“I forget sometimes that you are even a contestant on the show. You already feel like you’re passed that,” Legend said. “You feel like an artist already. The way you carry yourself … you just look advanced beyond a competition. You look like you should be up here coaching, too.”

Duran returns to the stage next Monday at 8 p.m.
