Check out some of the artwork up for auction for Small Stones Festival

Small Stones Festival of the Arts has created an online benefit art auction to help support the Festival.

A few of the award-winning artists who have donated their work include Carol Arnold, an accomplished fine art painter and Putney Painter Group member, David Long, a well-known landscape photographer, Nastassia Hunt, a gifted illustration and fine art artist and Frank Bartucca, a masterful architectural, portrait and fine art photographer.

The auction will feature 17 pieces of artwork donated by fine art artists and photographers. The bidding opens September 13, 9 a.m. and ends September 17, 9 p.m. All proceeds of the auction will benefit the Small Stones Festival of the Arts and its fiscal sponsor, Grafton Arts Inc., a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. The auction is available for viewing at www.32auctions.com/SSFAAuction21 or visit www.smallstonesfestival.org.

The Festival, now in its fourth year, is a collaboration of four regional arts organizations – Apple Tree Arts, the Worcester County Camera Club, the Blackstone Valley Art Association and the Shakespeare Club of Grafton. It includes a juried exhibit of fine art painting and photography accompanied by music and literary programs, juror and artist talks and an art collection presentation.

The Festival runs Oct. 15-24 with free exhibit hours on Saturdays 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays noon to 4 p.m. and weekday evenings of Oct. 20, 21 and 22 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. It opens with an award ceremony and reception Oct. 15 at the Great Hall, One Grafton Common in Grafton.

Three prestigious jurors for each category will select 144 works to appear in the exhibit and printed catalog as well as choose juror’s choice and cash award winners. Awards are given out in each category including first ($500), second ($250) and third ($100) place and people’s choice. The catalogue will be available online in late November.

Fine art jurors include renowned artist Carol Arnold, first place prize winner in the best figure/portraiture category of the June 2020 Plein Air Salon Art Competition; Charlotte Wharton, a highly accomplished portrait, plein-air and genre artist and Susan Swinand, a prominent painter with a preference for water media. Photography jurors are David DeMelim, founder and managing director of Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts; Jessica Roscio, director and curator at Danforth Art Museum; and renowned fine art portraiture photographer Al Weems.
