BVT celebrates 297 members of the Class of 2022 at commencement

Fifteen Grafton students were among the 297 members of the Blackstone Valley Tech Class of 2022 who graduated May 26 on the school’s athletic field.

“We have been blessed with absolutely perfect weather and the means to honor our graduates with all the pomp and circumstance they deserve,” said Assistant Superintendent-Director/Principal Mr. Anthony E. Steele II in his opening remarks. “I couldn’t be more proud of what you have accomplished together over the past four years. I am confident that the Class of 2022 has the skills and the passion to meet any endeavor with success.”

The ceremony included a rendition of the National Anthem sung by graduate Sofia Yitts of Grafton. Next, Yvette Martin, Director of Student Services, delivered the benediction. Then, graduates Eva Lavoie and Adriana Morris of Sutton performed an upbeat musical duet of “Today My Life Begins” by Bruno Mars, followed by student speakers.

They spoke about their time at BVT and thanked those who helped them on their journey, a common theme in their speeches. Riley Holt of Uxbridge, Valedictorian, mentioned their class’s drive and ability to overcome obstacles. Trout Marnell of Millbury, Senior Class President, credited BVT with helping shape us into the people we are today with wisdom, knowledge, humility, and integrity. Leah Cook of Blackstone, Student Council President, spoke about becoming well-rounded adults at BVT, and there is nothing we can’t accomplish. Lastly, Carmen Gray of Northbridge, Salutatorian, challenged the class to enjoy the simple things and find happiness in whatever they do. 

Assistant Principal Mr. Matthew Urquhart addressed the Class of 2022 and congratulated them on reaching one of life’s signature milestones. He told them to be proud of what they earned at BVT, treat others with kindness and remember to be respectful.

“Having embarked upon a successful voyage through high school, the BVT journey itself may prove to be the most impactful lesson as our graduates take what they learned into their next great adventure,” said Superintendent-Director Dr. Michael F. Fitzpatrick. “I’m sure that your time at BVT has and will continue to shape your career paths. There is a world full of exciting and endless possibilities just waiting for you. Go, find it!”

Two hundred and ninety-seven students concluded their dual high school education. They received a vocational certificate and a diploma, which certify mastery of competencies in their career-technical programs and a rigorous academic course of study. The evening ended with applause for the graduates as they tossed their caps toward the sky.
