Age range of COVID-19 cases in Grafton is younger than you think

New statistics released by the Central MA Regional Health Alliance show that 22 percent of Grafton’s COVID-19 cases are people in their 20s, with 20 percent of cases to be people in their 50s.

The previously unreleased data adds to the picture of Covid in Grafton, where the caseload rose by 17 people Friday to close out the week at 54, raising Grafton’s total since March to 337.

Twelve of those cases were in the Grafton Public Schools, although none were traced to in-school exposure.

Since March, 11 people in Grafton have died from Covid complications.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Massachusetts rose by 5,192 Friday, bringing the state’s total to 237,456. The death toll from confirmed cases increased by 37 to 10,674, the Department of Public Health reported.

The DPH reported that  51,371 people are estimated to have active cases of the potentially deadly virus, and 1,394 confirmed coronavirus patients were hospitalized.

Numbers are climbing nationally, with health officials projecting cases even higher than the first wave of cases.

Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said earlier this week that the upcoming months — even as the nation begins to roll out vaccines — could be “the most difficult in the public health history of this nation.”

“The reality is, December and January and February are going to be tough times,” Redfield said at an event with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
