Grafton Middle School students head back to school Wednesday

Grafton Middle School teachers on Wednesday will see something they haven’t seen since COVID-19 shuttered schools in March 2020: full classrooms.

Students in grades 7 and 8 are the next wave of Grafton students to leave the hybrid education world behind and return to school full time. They will be joined on the Providence Road campus on Monday when grades 9-12 once again will fill Grafton High School.

“We’re in fantastic shape, scheduling wise, lunches,” Superintendent of Schools Jay Cummings told the School Committee Tuesday night. “I think we’re good to go.”

Grafton students started their return to school back in February, well in advance of the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s mandate to have all elementary school students back in he classroom by April.

Kindergarten and first grade students returned to North and South Grafton elementary schools in February, followed by Grades 2 and 3 at North Street and Millbury Street elementary schools on March 29. Grades 4, 5, and 6 were back in school on April 5.
