Letter FROM the editor: How to endorse the Grafton election candidates

I’ve spent the past few months writing about the Grafton elections — the candidates, the date change, how to vote by mail or absentee. My writing mind knows all about it but my day-to-day mind, since COVID-19, can’t manage to figure out what day of the week it is, never mind the actual date.

So if the lawn signs haven’t tipped you off, guess what? We are officially in campaign season. The Grafton election is June 23, but here’s a fun twist: people are voting RIGHT NOW due to early voting. Now I’m scrambling on my end to make contact with candidates and whip out some profiles without coming into actual contact with anyone.

We live in interesting times.

On your end, you might be considering writing a letter to the editor in support of your favorite candidates or for or against the Proposition 2 1/2 override. That’s great! Here’s how to do it:

  • Send letters to jennifer@graftoncommon.com
  • If you are endorsing more than one candidate, please send only one letter. For the election cycle, each writer is allowed one letter
  • I will be printing letters as they come in, possibly in batches if I get overloaded
  • Be civil. I’m not setting a word count, but I also will not be printing ranting screeds
  • Deadline for letters is Thursday, June 18, at noon. The last day letters will run is Friday, June 19 (we go into Town Meeting on June 20 so, don’t worry, you’re going to have LOTS to read about that weekend)
  • I will not endorse a candidate or cause and you cannot put a sign on my lawn. Any signs will be returned marked with beagle pee.
