81 employees at Worcester Walmart have now tested positive for COVID-19

A total of 81 employees of the Worcester Walmart have tested positive for COVID-19 after three days of testing.

Meanwhile in Grafton, there are now 56 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

The store on Tobias Boulevard, just off Route 146 and 122A, was shut down Wednesday due to 23 positive coronavirus tests among store employees. The Telegram & Gazette reported Friday that city officials learned of the outbreak through social media posts.

More than 250 Worcester Walmart employees were tested Thursday and another 119 employees were tested Friday, according to a Saturday press release from Worcester officials. 

Of the 391 employees tested this week, a total of 58 tested positive and 333 tested negative. 

Employees who test positive will be out of work for a minimum for seven days. The store remains closed and will re-open requiring masks and social distancing for both employees and shoppers.

Since April 1, Worcester has seen an increase of 2,183 new cases, an average of 68 new cases per day.

The combined medical facilities of Saint Vincent Hospital and UMass Memorial Health Care had 280 total COVID-positive in-patients and 105 total COVID-positive ICU patients Saturday. To date, their facilities have had 114 total COVID-related deaths. A total of 183 of their employees have tested positive for the virus.

There are now 66,263 confirmed cases in Massachusetts with 3,846 deaths. Five percent of all cases are currently hospitalized. Nationwide, there are 1,092,815 confirmed cases and 64,283 deaths.
