What can you do this summer with Silver Lake Beach and summer programs cancelled?

It’s official: Grafton Recreation has issued full details about the closing of Silver Lake Beach this summer, as well as the cancellation of recreation programs.

“We have waited as long as possible and thank you for your patience but please know that keeping the children, public, and staff safe is our first concern during these uncertain times,” the announcement read.

All programs scheduled to start in June, July, and August are cancelled, due to COVID-19 concerns. Current enrollees will be emailed this week about refunds. Free programming will be announced for June and more events are in the planning stages for July and August, including a drive-in movie.

Beach passes for Silver Lake will also be refunded. Lifeguards will not be on the property, which continues to be open for fishing, boating, kayaking, paddleboarding, walking and sunbathing. Swimming is not allowed and water quality will not be tested.

On the property, visitors must:

  • Adhere to distancing and mask requirements
  • Minimum of 12 feet distance between toweling and beach blanket groups
  • 10 people maximum when seated
  • Face Coverings Required: masks worn at beaches and parking areas when social distancing is not possible in accordance with COVID-19 Executive Order No. 31
  • Parking is allowed in front of the gate, but you may be asked to temporarily move for staff access to the property.
  • Users must adhere to a ‘Carry In, Carry Out’ trash policy.
  • Dogs must remain leashed and picked up after.
  • Grill and table use is not allowed.
  • Ball sports are not allowed

At other town facilities, playgrounds remain closed. Tennis courts are open for users from the same household. Fields are open for no-contact sports for users from the same household.

  • No pick-up games, organized games or tournaments.
  • When engaged in play, users should avoid touching other users’ equipment in separate areas.
  • Users should sanitize hands before and after play, not share equipment, and clean and wipe down equipment.
  • Users waiting to utilize a section or area of the field should wait outside the field of play until previous users have vacated the facility to ensure proper social distancing and prevent accidental contact of other users’ equipment.
  • Face Coverings Required: masks worn when social distancing cannot be maintained in accordance with COVID- 19 Executive Order No. 31.

The popular Concerts on the Common series is slated to continue “but will be addressed as needed as the dates draw closer and phase guidelines are updated.” The Wednesday concerts are scheduled to kick off July 8 at 6:30 p.m. with Beatles for Sale.
