The forecast calls for trick-or-treating in Grafton

Yes, children, Halloween is scheduled to go on as usual in Grafton.

Yes, parents, it’s going to get really wet.

The forecast for Oct. 31 calls for a low of 53 degrees and rain showers leading to steady rain overnight. Bear in mind that warm temperatures plus rain — even after the recent overnight frosts — could bring mosquitos, so pack some bug spray to ward off any insects carrying EEE (The Board of Health’s recommendation to avoid being outside after dusk remains in effect).

Wind, including gusts up to 40 mph, are also forecast. While several towns in the Worcester area have moved trick-or-treating to another day,

Grafton Police posted the following notice: “Heavy rain and wind is predicted for Halloween night (October 31st.) Though we are not expecting a large volume of pedestrian traffic on South Street this year, we will have officers monitoring the situation and…should the need arise…limit motor vehicle access to South Street. Residents of South Street will not be affected by this restriction. As always, motorists who will be out for Halloween are advised to drive with caution, be alert for pedestrians and ensure that their vehicles are parked legally and do not hamper the flow of traffic.

“NOTE: We normally recommend trick-or-treat times between 5:00 to 8:00 pm however, due to the EEE threat, you should consider completing any activities before dusk. If out later, be sure to take the proper precautions.”

There is an indoor option for children aged 0-6. Grafton Recreation will host a friendly trick-or-treat at the Grafton Municipal Center, 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Start in the gymnasium for a bag and map and then head down the first floor hallway and up to the second floor for treats handed out by local businesses.
