SOLD! Grafton Flea Market sells for $1.1 million

The Grafton Flea Market sold for $1.1 million last week, raising questions about whether the landmark business has had its final season.

The 13.5 acre commercial property, comprised of both the main market and the parking lot across the street at 293 and 289 Upton Street. was originally listed back in September for $2.2 million.

Harry Peters started the Grafton Flea Market back in 1970, making it one of the oldest continuously running flea markets in Massachusetts. Some vendors have had designated spots for decades while others hand over $35 for a spot in its piney grove in lieu of having a yard sale.

“Business is excellent, but I’m getting up in age and my nephew (Michael Peters) is looking to do something else,” Peters said last fall. “There’s a lot of goodwill here — we try to work it as a family. The people we meet here are really incredible and I really mean that.”

Peters was unavailable for comment.

The property includes enough parking for at least 250 vehicles, a building with indoor sales stalls, bathrooms, and a small restaurant, along with an outdoor beer garden.

The buyer, and future plans for the site, are unknown.
