Snowstorm cancels Grafton schools, Friday trash pickup

School is already canceled for Friday in anticipation of a heavy snowstorm that may drop as much as 10 inches on the region.

The National Weather Service expects snow to begin falling at 1 a.m., tapering off in late afternoon Friday.

The much-anticipated snow day phone call from Superintendent of Schools Jay Cummings went out around 5 p.m. Thursday.

The town of Grafton has also postponed Friday’s trash pickup to Saturday.

Gov, Charlie Baker has instructed non-essential state employees not to report to work on Friday, working from home if they have the capacity to telework.

“Our Administration is closely monitoring this storm and we want everyone to stay off the roads and to take public transit if possible,” Baker said. “In addition, we urge employers to be flexible with workers and plan for difficult conditions on the roads tomorrow. Crews will be out treating roadways and plowing around the clock, and we ask everyone to give them the room they need to clear the roads.”
