Project Sticker Shock targets underage drinking in Grafton
Youth Leaders from Grafton High School’s FCL (Family and Community Leaders) along with School Resource Officer Mark Alves, teamed up to create a safer, healthier lifestyle, wanting to combat Grafton’s growing problem of underage drinking.
Alcohol has been identified as the #1 drug of choice among youth, and according to students, one of the easiest to get. FCL members joined forces in “Project Sticker Shock,” a statewide youth initiative underwritten by Coalition for a Healthy Grafton, to educate the public and change attitudes about selling and serving alcohol to anyone under 21.
FCL members Alex Abram, Skylar Campanale and Mackenzie Hanna worked with three liquor stores in town to spread “Sticker Shock” waves throughout Grafton by placing stickers on cases of beer. The sticker spells out a strong reminder: “It’s NOT your call it’s the LAW! IT IS ILLEGAL TO BUY OR PROVIDE ALCOHOL FOR ANYONE UNDER 21!”
The stickers, with shocking yellow and black colors, stand out on the beer cases for all to see. “Project Sticker Shock” was made possible with the help of Grafton Liquors, Five Star Liquors and Valley Plaza Discount Liquors.
