On Tuesday night, will Grafton be filled with the sound of bells?

Tina Qualey is hoping to hear bells Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Handbells. Maybe church bells. Heck, even pots and pans banging together will do it in a pinch.

The message is simple: Hear ye, hear ye. All is well in the town of Grafton. Even as we physically distance ourselves during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Qualey got the idea from the city of Marlborough, where she is a paraprofessional at Assabet Valley Regional Vocational Technical School. A joint initiative of the city’s Rotary Club and Recreation Department calls for residents to step outside and ring bells “as a reminder to all that although the community may be physically separated, our citizens remain united in their support of one another!.”

“I thought it was a great idea,” Qualey said. “I even ordered a new bell for it.”

Seven o’clock. Step outside. Ring a bell, bang some lids, raise a noise and say it loud: We’re still here.
