No last dance for the Class of 2021 as Grafton High cancels prom

COVID-19 has struck down plans for Grafton High School’s prom for the second year in a row, making the Class of 2021 the first in recent times to pass through GHS without a junior-senior prom.

While restrictions have eased on public gatherings in recent weeks along with the rollout of Covid vaccines, prom poses its own problems, GHS Principal Jim Pignataro wrote in a note to parents.

“The latest update from the state has not changed the number of people allowed to be in attendance at indoor venues,” he wrote. “The capacity number at DCU is still 100 people and that would include staff and students. Additionally, they have not received permission to hold that type of event. Therefore, we are not scheduling a prom this year.”

The DCU Center in Worcester, up until recently, served as a field hospital for Covid patients.
