McGovern calls for resignation of Postmaster General as Shrewsbury facility reduces mail processing

U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern took his objections to the slowdown of the mail to the USPS Central Massachusetts Processing and Distribution Center in Shrewsbury Tuesday, calling on Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to resign “so we can protect the integrity of our election and stop Donald Trump from sabotaging the USPS.”

Three mail processing machines were taken offline at the Shrewsbury facility, the final stop before distribution to the Central Mass region, including Grafton’s three post offices.

“The Postmaster General’s actions are an attack on our democracy, and they are harming millions of Americans who rely on the USPS every day — including 80 percent of veterans who receive their prescription drugs through the mail,” McGovern said.

On Saturday, as the House continues to investigate and call attention to what is going on at the USPS, McGovern said he will bring the Delivering For America Act to the House Floor for a vote “so we can reverse the changes which have been implemented by this Postmaster General and provide an additional $25 billion so the USPS can do their job during this unprecedented time.”
