Letter: ‘I’m disgusted that wearing a mask is being equated to “the start of a genocide!”‘

As much as I wanted to attend the School Committee meeting, I was busy and watched from home.  I would like to speak:

I’m disgusted that wearing a mask is being equated to “the start of a genocide!” I am Armenian and what my ancestors went through is beyond disgusting.  I’m sure they would have worn a mask if it meant they had a chance at life. Well over a million lives taken, and still Turkey denies to this day.

They were survivors and their stories are heartbreaking.  My best friend is Armenian and her great gram is a survivor of the Armenian genocide. The “start” of the genocide for her was when a Turkish soldier ambushed them in their house and shot her father and brother. Women and children, marched off to the concentration camps. She had to hide under a dead body to escape with her life. She watched her 8 year old brother die of starvation, forced to leave his dead body on the side of the road.

I too, have a survivor in my family and learning his story now.

Hitler watched what Turkey accomplished, hence another genocide and 6,000,000 horrible deaths.

The bottom line is mask wearing is politicized and an inconvenience for some.

In no way, shape, or form should the word Genocide be used to describe the situation now. A situation where the science, data and health care experts are all guiding us to keep our kids safe….not dead on the side of the road or hiding under dead bodies.
