Jam-packed week includes GHS graduation, Fun Fair, Grafton Pride, and alpaca shearing
What’s happening in Grafton this week? In a word… everything.
For members of the Grafton High School Class of 2022 (and their parents!), the highlight of the week is graduation on Thursday, which returns to the Hanover Theatre in Worcester after two years of pandemic-mandated ceremonies on the football field. “Pomp and Circumstance” starts playing at 6 p.m., but if a graduate hasn’t given you a ticket, you’re out of luck — seating is limited due to class size.
On Saturday, there’s a little something for everyone.
Grafton Pride
The town’s first-ever celebration of LGBTQ+ Pride Month is planned for George H. Jordan Boulevard/One Grafton Common. Here’s the lineup:
- 11:00am Jazz Brunch
- 12:00pm Drag Dog Adoption Walk
- 1:30pm Apple Tree Arts Students
- 3:00pm Drag Story Time
- 4:30pm Concert opening act: Eilidh Deans
- 5:00pm Concert featuring Jessye DeSilva
- 7:30pm Drag show
Fun Fair
The annual Fun Fair returns to North Grafton Elementary School for the first time in two years. The outdoor carnival features games, crafts, demonstrations and activities (including a scavenger hunt and obstacle course), food trucks, musical cakes, and a huge raffle. The spring book fair will also be held during the event. Admission is free, but tickets are needed to play games and other activities.
Community Yard Sale
It’s being billed as “the biggest community yard sale and box auction of the year,” so if yard sales and thrifting are your thing, head over to Millbury Street Elementary School between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Families of 100 scouts are cleaning out their attics, basements and closets to support the fundraising efforts of Troop 107, Troop 2019, Pack 107, Pack 106. Huge tables for bargain finds, plus browse dozens of boxes donated by Grafton’s scouting families. Raise your paddle to bid on the boxes of your choice.
Alpaca Shearing Day
Angel Hair Alpacas, 66 Wesson Street, opens its doors each year for the shearing of its alpaca herd. Arrive at 9 a.m. if you want to see them while they’re still fluffy — the shearing is over quickly, much to the fluffy animals’ relief — but the farm remains open to visitors through 11 a.m., including its on-site store of alpaca-wool creations.
