Haze Cannabis may open as early as May

In retrospect, maybe scheduling Haze Cannabis’ first community outreach meeting as a Zoom call on President’s Day wasn’t the best idea.

Haze Cannabis owner Colonel Boothe pressed on, nonetheless, to an audience consisting of Planning Board members Bob and Linda Hassinger (who occasionally shared a screen with their two dogs) and this reporter. He plans to hold another se

Boothe hopes to open the second marijuana retailer in Grafton at 135 Westborough Road in North Grafton, which he acquired from former marijuana applicant Resinate. Boothe is also planning to manufacture cannabis products on-site, including edibles, cigars, beverages, and vape cartridges.

“Any place that marijuana moves through the building, there will be cameras,” Boothe said, stressing that security is a top priority.

He has experience in this, after all. He’s been in the marijuana business for six years, working at a site in Middleboro.

The manufacturing facility will not be open to the general public and employ about 10 people, who Boothe plans to hire locally.

“We’ve hit some major construction delays,” he said. “The amount of rehab we have to do to the building… the building was in very bad shape.”

Like fellow business Discern’d Cannabis Purveyors, now under construction at 130 and 134 Worcester Street, Boothe said he’s experienced construction supply problems. Nonetheless, he’s hopeful that retail sales will begin in May, with manufacturing starting in June or July.

“If we hit any more delays, we’re just going to keep moving,” Boothe said. “The price of materials now, has been a shock.”

Cheese shop Pecorino has also been undergoing some renovations, and Boothe said he’s looking forward to promoting both businesses.

“Marijuana products or some wine and cheese — we’re going to be a destination,” he said.

As of last spring’s Town Meeting, Grafton has a maximum of three permitted cannabis retailers. The first, MJ’s Market, opened in October at 13 Centennial Drive.
