Grafton Town Meeting will use a consent agenda. What’s that?

With fall Town Meeting scheduled outdoors on Halloween — on a sunny day with temperatures in the 40s — the usual warrant will become a “consent agenda.”

What the heck is that?

Select Board member Colleen Roy and Finance Committee Chair Mark Haddad (who, as town manager in Groton, deals with his fair share of consent agendas) created a brief explainer video of the process for those not quite familiar with the process.

With a consent agenda, the Select Board, moderator, and Finance Committee will group together warrant articles that are unlikely to generate controversy and can be voted through without a debate.

If a voter at Town Meeting does wish to debate an article or vote on it separately, they may simply call a “hold” on that item, which will restore it into the main warrant.

Halloween, under the full moon with the temperature around 40 degrees – on the football field?
    Really?
Can you also waive the minimum number of residents required for a legal Town Meeting?
