Grafton sees 15 new COVID-19 cases in two weeks
Grafton has turned yellow on Massachusetts’ COVID-19 map, reflecting 15 new confirmed cases over the past two weeks, according to DPH data released Thursday.
This marks the first time Grafton has had a larger active case load since the start of the pandemic in March. It has occasionally ventured into green territory (less than four cases per 100,000 reported daily).
The total case count since the start of the pandemic is now 142, a town-by-town breakout by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Of the 1,803 tests administered to Grafton residents over the past two weeks, 17 were positive.
The increase comes just days before Halloween, which this year includes an outdoor Town Meeting in addition to trick-or-treating.
Grafton High School Principal James Pignataro sent a reminder to parents Thursday to keep their children away from social gatherings.
”As we move into the holiday season, I want to re-emphasize the importance of everyone in the GHS community working together to maximize the chances of us being able to keep GHS open to in-person instruction,” he wrote. “As I am sure you are aware, numerous high schools have had to temporarily transition to all-remote instruction for various lengths of time due to students not following state COVID guidelines outside of school. Parties and social gatherings have led to schools being unable to provide in-person learning, athletics, and school activities. Our GHS community has done an exceptional job in working together to maximize our collective safety and my hope is that this effort continues throughout the coming months. Thank you for your cooperation!”
