Grafton receives $500,000 for Fitzpatrick Road bridge repair
The town of Grafton was recently awarded a $500,000 grant through the Municipal Small Bridge Program for the replacement of the bridge at Fitzpatrick Road over Cronin Brook.
The grant was jointly announced by state Rep. David K. Muradian, Jr. and state Sen. Michael O. Moore.
“This is fantastic news for our continuing efforts to improve Grafton’s roadway infrastructure,” stated Town Administrator Evan Brassard. “Receiving this grant is a testament to the hard work of Brian Szczurko, Assistant Town Engineer, Paul Cournoyer, DPW Director, our entire DPW Team, Representative Muradian, and Senator Moore. All of our residents in this area will be better served by the improved bridge!”
“I was excited to hear that Grafton was chosen as a grant recipient of the Municipal Small Bridge Program,” Muradian said. “These funds will continue to help us provide our community with safe infrastructure, which is essential for our residents.”
The Municipal Small Bridge Program, created in 2016 by the Baker-Polito Administration. the program funds projects based on need and merit, seeking to fund projects that demonstrate a critical need or that will substantially extend the life of an existing bridge. Communities are eligible to receive one design grant up to $100,000 and one construction grant up to $500,000 per year. Administered by the Department of Transportation, this latest round of funding will aid 53 communities.
“I’m thrilled to see that Grafton was awarded a $500,000 MassDOT grant to replace the Cronin Brook bridge on Fitzpatrick Road,” Moore said. “These kinds of infrastructure investments create jobs, improve the town, and most importantly, make our roads safer for everyone.”

This is all great. But I hope the work doesn’t start until well after Oct 2023 when the Main St Improvement Project is finally done. If it really does complete by then. I still chuckle over that guy at the planning and design meetings back in 16 & 17 who wanted to bet his house against the town, state and cast in stone completion date of Oct 2021. And next there’s the Depot St Wilkinsonville bridge project coming up that Grafton is participating in. At this rate, this neck of the woods will be cut off from civilization if all these products are underway at the same time. Not complaining. Just saying on behalf of all in South Grafton who already can’t get there from here.
