Grafton Police seek leads on woman begging for ‘gas money’

The Grafton Police Department advising residents to be on the lookout for a woman who has been begging for gas money at numerous businesses in town.

“The woman may state she is pregnant and claims to be a victim of domestic violence telling potential victims she needs gas money to get to Hartford, CT,” the department wrote on its Facebook page Friday, “If you encounter this individual, do not confront her. Please contact Grafton Police immediately and request that an officer respond.”

Numerous residents took to the “All Things Grafton” Facebook group on Wednesday to express concerns about their interactions with the woman.

“Warning: Last night I pulled into Cancun’s around 9 p.m.,” the original poster wrote. “A car came across the street driving crazy and pulled in next to me. She rolled her passenger window and red flags went up for me.

“I rolled down my window and the woman began stating she needed help. She went on with an elaborate [story] and then asked me for money to get gas so she could drive home to Hartford CT. She told me there was an ATM directly across the street multiple times. I told her I had no money except two dollars in loose change.

“She got pissed and flew out of the parking spot and sped down the road toward S&S. Clearly this woman was trying to scam me and lure me to ATM. Scary this happened here.”
