Grafton High players will see fewer fans in the stands due to Covid rise
Grafton High School is limiting spectators at athletic events, effective immediately, under new SWCL guidelines prompted by the recent surge in COVID-19 cases.
In a letter to parents, Principal Kevin Carney said the adjustments are temporary measures that will be evaluated in the next two weeks to ensure that student-athletes can continue to compete this winter.
“While we recognize this is not ideal, limiting the number of spectators will hopefully allow us to continue games,” Carney wrote.
The ability to hold practices an games will be evaluate on a team-by-team bases. Athletic directors and administrators in the Southern Worcester County League will be monitoring case increases, postponing or canceling games and practices as needed.
- Through January 19, spectators will be limited to immediate same house hold family members of each athlete, with siblings accompanied by at least one adult.
- No food or drink will be allowed in the gymnasium, other than the water/drinks required by athletes and coaches.
- Any student-athlete experiencing symptoms must not attend practices or games and should be in contact with their primary care physician and the school nurse.
- School health staff and administrators will determine close contact designations.
“Student limitations are being imposed because of inconsistency in earring masks while in proximity to each other and those competing, couple with the challenge of contact trading should someone be found positive of COVID-19 after attending,” Carney wrote.
