Grafton High cancels indoor track as ‘Fall II’ season gets underway

Grafton High Athletic Director Kevin Anderson has submitted this update on the new sports season, which includes sports that could not be run in the fall due to COVID-19.

Members of the Grafton Community:

First off, I want to thank all of the student-athletes who have an interest in our Fall II sports for their patience.

This year has been unlike any other and your willingness to keep forging ahead has been noteworthy and commendable.

A few decisions have been made with regards to Fall II Sports. They are listed below:

Indoor Track & Field will not take place during the Fall II window. Space, weather conditions, and other factors have played a part in this difficult decision.

However, what will happen is that the outdoor season will be extended by several weeks and will begin on Thursday, April 1 rather than Monday, April 26.

I know this isn’t the news a lot of you wanted to hear but, it is the best option we have that will provide you all with the safest competition environment possible.

Signups for Outdoor Track and Field have been published and should be good to go effective immediately.

As for our Fall II sports other than football, which is already underway, they will all begin soon.

Those sports include:

  • Volleyball
  • Cheer
  • Unified Basketball

Signups for those sports have been reopened until Friday, February 26 at noon.

Volleyball will have a two-day tryout on Monday, March 1, and Tuesday, March 2 from 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM.

Cheer will have their first tryout date on Sunday, February 28 from 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM and will continue on Fridays and Sundays throughout the season.

Unified Basketball will start practice on Monday, March 8. Their first practice will go from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM.

Families will receive sport-specific information from head coaches in the coming days as each sport prepares for the start of their respective seasons.

If anyone has any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Best,

Kevin Anderson
