Grafton firefighters rescue deer from icy pond
The ice on Grafton ponds isn’t quite safe yet — just ask the deer Grafton firefighters rescued from the icy waters of Fisherville Pond.
The rescue was captured by freelance photographer Matthew Gregoire, a retired Woonsocket, RI firefighter who specializes in capturing images from fire, accident and rescue scenes around southern New England.
Gregoire said online that firefighters donned ice rescue suits before cautiously venturing onto the ice in the early afternoon.
Notes the photographer, “It is not known how long the deer was in the Fisherville Pond but the fire dept was notified after a woman walking her dog noticed the deer struggling and called 911.”
The deer was taken to dry land, where it rested before running off for further adventures.
